A Friend Of Mine Posted This On Yelp About Gus's Restaurant On 3rd Street In Los Angeles ... He Was VERY UPSET

I have been visiting Gus for about 5 years now off and on, when I am not too far from the LA downtown area. Except for the first time I was there about 5 years ago, I have always paid full price for their food. It's not too expensive. Recently, I received a coupon by Entertainment Guide that promised a buy 1 get 1 free deal. I went with a friend and ordered 2 items. I then presented the coupon to them.

Since there was hardly any time delay between the time we spoke the order and the person punching the order into the cash register, the total amount without a discount was already recorded on the register. The young lady then refused to take the coupon, stating that it is a rule that all coupons must be announced before we order. We tried to reason with her, but she would not accept it. We also asked for her name, which she would not give, but another gentlemen working there did say that the boss is someone named Chris, who will only be there in the morning.

That all seemed very strange if not unprofessional. I have been using Entertainment Guide coupons for a long time, and never had a problem presenting them at the time of order. I recall that I provided the coupon after ordering about 5 years ago when I first visited the place and they had no taking the coupon then, after ordering.

After we left, I checked the rules of the coupon printed, and the printed terms said that the coupon should be presented upon ordering, not before or prior. "Upon" means "immediately or very soon after" or "on the occasion of", which was exactly what I did.

Sadly, this merchant is refusing to honor coupons according to the agreement. But the thing is, Chris, your customers are not stupid. Treat us well and we will speak well of you and return. Treat us bad and you lose more and more business. I cannot recommend visiting this restaurant because they act unfairly towards customers.
